FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything we're most often asked about our rugs, customisation, ordering and shipping.

Product

Are your rugs really handmade?

Yes — every House of Souravi rug is 100% handmade by artisans in Bhadohi, India, using hand-tufting, hand-knotting or traditional handloom weaving depending on the piece. Nothing in the collection is machine-made.

What are your rugs made from?

Primarily 100% New Zealand wool, chosen for its softness, resilience and natural texture. Our hand-knotted pieces use a dense, hand-knotted wool construction, and select handloom pieces are trimmed with a natural jute border.

Do hand-tufted rugs shed?

Some light shedding is normal in the first few weeks as loose fibres from tufting work their way out. It settles with regular vacuuming and isn't a sign of a quality issue.

How durable are hand-tufted wool rugs?

Very — wool is naturally resilient and holds up well to everyday foot traffic. With basic care (see our Rug Care Guide), a hand-tufted wool rug can last many years.

What is the difference between hand-tufted and hand-knotted rugs?

Hand-tufted rugs are made by punching wool through a fabric backing with a hand-tufting gun, which is faster to produce and typically ready in 4–5 weeks for international orders (2–3 weeks within India). Hand-knotted rugs are tied by hand, knot by knot, a much slower and denser construction in the tradition of classic Persian and Oushak weaving, taking 10–14 weeks to complete. Hand-knotted pieces have no separate backing (fringed, hand-finished edges instead) and are generally considered a finer, longer-lasting heirloom construction.

Custom & Bespoke

Can I get a rug in a different size?

Yes — every design can be made in a custom size. Use “Request a Quote” on any product page and select Custom, or reach out directly.

Can I change the colourway?

Most designs offer alternate colourways, and we can discuss a fully custom palette as well — just mention it in your enquiry.

Can you create a completely original design?

Yes, that's what our Bespoke process is for. Share a reference image, moodboard or sketch and we'll take it from there.

Can I send you a sketch or inspiration photo?

Absolutely — that's often the best way to start a bespoke enquiry.

Ordering

How long does production take?

Most hand-tufted rugs are made to order in 4–5 weeks for international orders (2–3 weeks within India); custom and bulk orders are quoted individually based on complexity.

Can I request a sample first?

Physical samples are available for trade and bulk orders — see our Trade page. For individual rugs, every product page includes close-up detail photography of the material and pile, and we're always happy to send extra reference photos or a short video of the actual colourway before you order.

What if the colour isn't quite what I expected?

Reach out to us directly — since every rug is made to order, we'd rather talk it through with you before and during production than have you unhappy with the result.

How do I pay?

Every order starts as an enquiry rather than an instant checkout — we'll confirm final pricing and payment details with you directly once your specification is set.

International & Shipping

Do you ship to the US, Europe and elsewhere?

Yes — House of Souravi ships worldwide from Bhadohi, India.

How long does shipping take?

Once your rug is complete, shipping typically takes 7–10 business days to the US and Europe, and 3–5 business days within India, via tracked international courier (DHL or FedEx). This is on top of the production lead time — 4–5 weeks for most hand-tufted pieces on international orders (2–3 weeks within India), 10–14 weeks for hand-knotted rugs — shown on each product page.

Who is responsible for duties and taxes?

For shipments outside India, the recipient is responsible for any import duties, VAT or customs fees charged by their country — these aren't included in the rug price, since they vary by destination and order value. We'll flag the likely range for your country when we confirm your order.

How long from order to delivery, start to finish?

For a standard hand-tufted rug, expect roughly 6–7 weeks total for an international order: 4–5 weeks of production plus transit time (roughly 3–4 weeks total within India). Hand-knotted Traditional Collection pieces take longer to make — 10–14 weeks of production, plus transit — given the denser, slower construction. We'll confirm an exact date range when your order is placed.

Can I track my order?

Yes, tracking details are provided once your rug ships.

Trade & Wholesale

Do you offer trade pricing?

Yes — see our Trade & Wholesale page for interior designers, dealers, retailers and hospitality projects.

Can designers request samples?

Yes, sampling is available for trade partners — mention it in your trade enquiry.

Do you take on hospitality or bulk projects?

Yes, we work with hospitality businesses and can support bulk and project-based orders — lead times and MOQs are discussed per project.

Can you ship directly to my client?

Yes — we regularly ship trade orders directly to a designer's client or project site. Just provide the delivery address and any site-access details in your trade enquiry.

Can you provide export documentation?

Yes — commercial invoices and the export paperwork needed for customs clearance are provided with every international shipment, trade or individual.

What is the minimum order quantity for trade orders?

There's no fixed minimum for trade pricing — we work with everything from a single statement piece for a designer's project to larger recurring hospitality orders. Volume simply affects which trade tier and lead times apply.
