A little regular care keeps a wool rug looking and feeling its best for years. Here's what we recommend.
Vacuum weekly without a beater bar or rotating brush, which can pull at the tufted pile. A suction-only setting or a handheld vacuum is gentler on hand-tufted wool.
For spills, blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth — working from the outside in. Rubbing can push the spill deeper into the pile and spread the stain.
For stains, use a small amount of mild detergent diluted in water. Test on a hidden corner first, and always blot rather than saturate the area.
Light shedding is normal for a new hand-tufted wool rug as loose fibres from the tufting process work their way out. It typically settles within the first few weeks of regular vacuuming.
Rotate your rug every few months if it gets consistent sun or foot traffic on one side, so wear and fading happen evenly.
Direct, prolonged sunlight can fade wool over time. Curtains, blinds, or simply rotating the rug will help colours stay true for longer.
A good rug pad prevents slipping (in addition to the anti-skid backing), reduces wear from friction, and adds a bit of extra cushioning underfoot.
For a deeper clean beyond routine vacuuming and spot treatment, have your rug professionally cleaned by a specialist experienced with hand-tufted wool.
If you need to store a rug, clean it first, roll it (never fold) with the pile facing inward, and keep it somewhere dry to avoid moisture damage.
